Fiji’s best distance runners were in action at the recent Oceania Championships. Most of us know Avikash Lal from his visits to Suva to dominate the half marathon category in recent years.

He is the course record holder for the Suva Half Marathon winning the event in 2014 and 2016, and the Munro Leys Suva Challenge earlier this year.

Avikash, of Jet Runners, Nadi was disappointed with his performance in the 5000m but learnt from his mistakes and showed determination and a strong finish to win the gold medal in the 10000m.

Suva Marathon Club members Jeremiah Singh and Kennol Narayan ran personal bests in the 5000m and 10000 respectively of 16.37, 16.58 and 35.31, 35.56.

Also, running in the Masters category at the Oceania Championships were some recognisable names – Shiri Chand ‘Mushroom’ and Binesh Prasad (Fiji’s marathon record holder).

Congratulations to everyone that took part!
